Puberty Talk is a comprehensive puberty education curriculum designed to educate students in grades 5 & 6 about human bodies, personal safety, and the changes that young people may face during puberty. The California Healthy Youth Act (CHYA) requires that sexual health and HIV prevention education must be taught by instructors trained in the appropriate courses. If your organization is new to Health Connected, we will reach out after your purchase to discuss your organization’s training implementation plan. You can also review our training options here.
Components of the Puberty Talk (2025) curriculum:
- Establishes a foundation of knowledge and common language for communicating about puberty and sexual health with trusted adults, peers, and future partners
- Helps students identify trusted resources (parents, family, school personnel, healthcare providers, age-appropriate websites, helplines, etc.)
- Encourages communication with parents and other trusted adults, including a parent/trusted adult interview homework assignment with discussion prompts related to puberty, friendship, and safety
- Variety of pedagogical approaches to maximize engagement for different learners
- Gender-inclusive language as well as trauma-informed and healing-centered practices
- Background information for instructors to help facilitate sensitive conversations (glossary of terms, answers to common questions, sample scripts, etc.)
- Meets the stringent requirements of the California Healthy Youth Act (CA Education Code sections 51930-51939)
- Aligned with the California Health Content Standards and California Health Framework
