With 12 informative sessions spread over two weeks, this curriculum offers a robust foundation for understanding sexual and reproductive anatomy, relationships, consent, and decision-making.
Over a minimum of 10 hours of instruction, students will explore a wide range of essential topics. These include sexual and reproductive anatomy, covering both the male and female systems and the fascinating journey of conception and fetal development. They will gain valuable insights into various birth control methods, pregnancy options, and the prevention and transmission of STIs and HIV.
The Teen Talk High School curriculum goes beyond the biological aspects of sexual health and embraces the importance of understanding gender and sexual orientation. By fostering an inclusive environment and using gender-inclusive language, students will explore diverse identities and experiences, promoting empathy, acceptance, and respect.
Recognizing the influence of media on perceptions of sexuality and relationships, this curriculum includes a media analysis component. Students will critically evaluate media messages, challenging harmful stereotypes and gaining media literacy skills that empower them to make informed choices in the digital age.
The Teen Talk High School curriculum also addresses important aspects of healthy relationships. Students will explore topics such as communication, consent, and decision-making, equipping them with the necessary tools to establish and maintain respectful relationships throughout their lives.
To ensure students have access to resources and support, the curriculum actively encourages communication with parents/trusted adults, school personnel, and healthcare providers. By facilitating open and honest conversations, students will develop a stronger support network and gain valuable guidance from reliable sources. As part of this process, an interview assignment is included, promoting dialogue between students and their parents or trusted adults.
